Press release: 29/08/2006

'Cycler' - the recycling robot will be rapping around a selection of Rotherham schools next week.

From Monday to Friday, September 11 to 15, 'Cycler' will be spreading the message of how youngsters can tackle the waste problem through reducing, re-using and recycling their rubbish.

In co-operation with Rotherham Borough Council and the national Recycle Now campaign, Waste Watch's 'Cycler' will give a dancing and rapping dislay about recycling. Accompanied by an Education Officer from Waste Watch, Cycler's highly interactive show is fun and full of facts. It forms part of a national environmental education programme run by Waste Watch.

David Taggart, Education Officer for Waste Watch, said: "Every household in the UK throws away just over one tonne of waste per year, of which around 60 per cent could be recycled to avoid wasting valuable resources. 'Cycler' raps and talks to the children about this. They quickly learn the message and soon join in - it is a message they also enjoy taking home!"

The robot has come at a time when many more households across Rotherham are getting green bins - making it easier than ever to recycle garden waste and cardboard.

The following schools are taking part in the event:
