Yorkshire rockers Terrorvision have been confirmed as the headliners for this year’s Doncaster Live music festival.

Best known for their 1999 hit ‘Tequila’, the band had a string of hits in the nineties and earlier noughties including ‘Perseverance’, ‘Oblivion’, ‘Alice What’s the Matter?’ and ‘Middleman’.

Doncaster school attendance crackdown. Print E-mail

As we reach the end of the summer holidays and families across Doncaster prepare for the start of a brand new school year, the Council is sending out a clear message that unauthorised pupil absence will not be tolerated.

In Court this month, parents of three separate children have each been given 80 hours community service and each asked to pay costs of £70 after being found guilty of failing to ensure their child attends school regularly - the first prosecution of this kind to happen in Doncaster.

If parents or guardians fail to work with the school and Education Welfare Officers to improve the attendance of their children following a warning letter, a Fixed Penalty Notice may be issued.

Government legislation enables the Council to issue a £50 fine in the form of a Fixed Penalty Notice that

Book shows area in old photos Print E-mail

North Lincolnshire council is holding a special event on Tuesday 7 September from 12pm to 4pm to celebrate the launch of its joint book with the History Press next month.

The book is called ‘Britain in old photographs. Scunthorpe and District’ and is part of North Lincolnshire Museum’s Britain in old photographs series.

The book contains 220 archive photographs drawn from the collections of the museum and library services, the majority of which have never been published before, with detailed captions and an introductory chapter.

Inspiring Results at Barnsley Sixth Form College Print E-mail

Barnsley Sixth Form College congratulate all its A Level students on their success; and in particular those students who did even better than they expected themselves.

2010 has proved to be a great year for A Level results at Barnsley Sixth Form College with students achieving over 96% pass rate. College students sat around 3000 exams in a wide range of subjects and have seen results improve with more and more students studying. Barnsley Sixth Form College is providing inspiring education for the young people of Barnsley and beyond.

Students achieved 100% pass rates in 19 courses including Accounting, Art and Design - Fine Art, Business Studies, Classical Civilisation, Drama and Theatre, Economics, English Language, French, Further Mathematics, Geography, German, Health and Social Care, Media, Music, Music Technology, Spanish and Sport and Physical Education .

AS Level results also improved with a 5.5% increase in the overall pass rate. 200 more students sat exams compared to last year with a great increase in high grades achieved including French, Further Maths and Sociology with impressively over 50% of students achieving high grades in

Dementia research receives £1.5 million boost Print E-mail

New research projects are being funded as part of an exciting new partnership between Alzheimer's Society and the Bupa Foundation.

Research that could take scientists a step closer to discovering the cause of Alzheimer's and a study on how to improve care for people with dementia in hospitals are two of nine research projects that have been announced today (Friday, 3 September). The projects have been made possible following a £1.5 million grant jointly from Alzheimer's Society and the Bupa Foundation.

Plastic bottles added to Kerbside scheme Print E-mail

Plastic bottles will be added to the existing kerbside collection of recycled glass and cans in some areas of Barnsley, following a decision by the council’s Cabinet members on Wednesday 18th August 2010.

Following last year’s successful competition, today sees the launch of the ‘CPRE East Riding Hedgerow Awards’ for 2010.

CPRE East Riding and East Riding of Yorkshire Council have again teamed up with the HEYwoods Initiative - the trees and woodland initiative for Hull and the East Riding - to run the awards scheme that recognises and celebrates the best practice of farmers, landowners and community groups who plant, manage and restore native hedgerows in the East Riding.

The awards scheme is open to anyone who is involved in planting, maintaining or improving native hedgerows and nominations for this year’s awards are now being sought.
