Community-News information appeal Yorkshire PolicePolice are appealing for witnesses after a red Ford Transit van was found in the River Don on Thorpe Bank in Barnby Dun, Doncaster at 7am this morning, Tuesday November 24.

It appears the van driver lost control after crossing the railway line near to Thorpe Marsh Power Station on Marsh Lane and crashed through a wooden fence and down a grass bank before entering the River Don.

The van came to rest partly submerged in the water. There was no one in the van when the emergency services arrived.

The van was reported stolen from outside a premise on Wheatley Hall Road, Doncaster shortly before this incident.

Any witnesses or anyone with information about the theft are asked to call the South Yorkshire Police witness helpline on 0114 220 2970.
