Wombwell Safer Neighbourhood Team have been carrying out focused policing on areas of Snape Hill Road and Upperwood Road, Darfield after the issue of young people congregating in large groups and causing antisocial behaviour was highlighted as a PACT (partners and communities together) priority by local residents.

Some residents have made reports that some of the young people have been littering, been abusive to locals and intimidated passers by.

Since the area was highlighted as a PACT priority, Wombwell SNT have spent over 25 hours patrolling the area to deter any antisocial behaviour being carried out and to ensure the safety of the teenagers and the other members of the public.

The focused policing started around 3 weeks ago and since then 29 young people have had antisocial behaviour letters sent home to their parents, explaining their behaviour and the problems it can cause.

Letters have also been sent to addresses and businesses in the area to encourage them to report any incidents so that the SNT can resolve them.

PC Paul Jameson said, “We have listened to the concerns of local residents and it is clear that the issue is causing distress to some people. We will continue to prioritise the area and carry out preventative measures to ensure the safety of the Wombwell community.”

If you have any concerns about this or any other safety issue, please leave a message on the Wombwell SNT contact line and someone will get back to you: 01226 736408.
