Signs are going up in Doncaster town centre reminding residents that spitting, swearing and anti-social behaviour are not acceptable.
50 signs are going up on lamp posts around the town centre. They say: ‘We want Doncaster to be a place that everyone can enjoy. Spitting and swearing are anti-social and unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Thank you. Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster.’
Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster, said: "I absolutely deplore spitting and swearing in the streets which offends the vast majority of people and causes distress to many.
"I am drawing a line in the sand, we will not tolerate this kind of behaviour.
"Unfortunately this sort of thing happens far too often, but I have ordered these signs to be put up as a reminder of the sort of conduct that everybody should be able to expect in the town centre.
"Tackling this issue was one of my election manifesto pledges and I believe that this will help make town centre more attractive and welcoming to residents and visitors alike."
Councillor Cynthia Ransome, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Regulatory/Customer Services and Housing, said: "We are working tirelessly to clean up the steets of Doncaster and make people take responsibility for their own actions.
"We have already sent a strong message to young people who drop litter by saying that they will either have to pay a fine or take part in a litter pick.
"These new signs let people know that we expect a basic standard of behaviour from everyone visiting the town centre."
