Virtually all children in Doncaster have been offered a place at one of their preferred secondary schools.

It comes on National Announcement day - when local authorities across the country tell parents/guardians and the Department for Children Schools and Families the outcomes of the 2010/11 school admissions process.

99.16 per cent of children across Doncaster have been offered a place at one of their three preferred schools, maintaining the level from last year. 95.54 per cent have received a place at their first choice of secondary school.

Out of more than three thousand applications just 27 children did not receive one of their preferred schools. All of these children have been offered a place at their local school.

Parents who have been refused places have been offered the right to an independent appeal. The council is also happy to work with families to identify where alternative places are available.

Councillor Andrea Milner, Doncaster Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: "I am extremely pleased today’s statistics represent a sustained performance on last year and is testament of our ongoing commitment in trying to ensure as many children as possible start the next academic year at one of their preferred schools."
