A new sculpture is emerging from a tree in Churchfields burial ground, Barnsley town centre.
Over the past couple of weeks, Bryan Proctor, who sculptured the dragon at Locke Park, has been sculpturing one of the trees in the grounds which was dying due to disease.
The sculpture is now taking shape and the figure of a child is plain to see. The burial ground has undergone a number of improvement works thanks to efforts by the council and Barnsley Central residents association.
Thanks to grants and fundraising by Barnsley Central Residents Association and
local ward members, almost £18,000 has been made available - of which £15,600 was from Wren (Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd).
Works so far this year include new footpaths, Victorian seating and an interpretation board giving a brief history on Churchfields.
