South Yorkshire’s Trading Standards departments held its annual motor trade seminar at Tankersley Manor, Barnsley on Wednesday, 14 July.
Organised jointly by Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield and now in its seventh year, the event recognises the innovative partnership between the local authorities and vehicle retailers within South Yorkshire.
The scheme has obtained national recognition for its fair trading charter and demonstrating a real commitment to open and honest customer service at all stages of the car buying process.
This year’s seminar included the presentation of the schemes Annual Retailer Awards by the Lord Mayor of
Sheffield, Councillor Alan Law JP
There were also presentations by guest speakers. Andrew Jeffery Hatfield’s Jaguar, Sheffield, who talked about the industry perspective; Niall Jeewooarain, Financial Ombudsman Service, about complaints in challenging times and Charles Wallace, Office of Fair Trading, gave an update on compliance guidance for second hand car dealers.
Councillor Roy Miller, Chair of the South Yorkshire joint Trading Standards Committee, recently said: “The present economic climate continues to provide real challengers for local businesses, not least the retail motor trade. Whilst recognising these challenging times, Trading Standards in partnership with local businesses are proud to celebrate the continued success of the initiative and acknowledge the achievements of all involved.
“Customer satisfaction and a commitment to fair-trading remains the focus of the South Yorkshire Motor Trade Partnership, providing consumers with that extra reassurance and support with their vehicle purchase.”
