Rotherham has produced a wealth of sporting champions who have all brought glory to the town.
But, for every big name there are hundreds of unsung heroes out there working to nurture the next generation of superstars from the borough.
Day in and day out, they build the foundations which are helping people of all ages and abilities to achieve their sporting ambitions and, thanks to the 2010 Rotherham Sports Awards, held in association with Rother FM, these unsung heroes of sport can now have their moment in the spotlight.
Organised in conjunction with Rotherham Council's Sports Development Team and local organisations including Corus, Irwin Mitchell, Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, DC Leisure, Rotherham & District Sunday Football League and
Video Vision, the awards are for those who inspire, who are always there come rain or shine and for those who have achieved against the odds.
Now in its fourth year, the Rotherham Sports Awards, which has its ceremony on Thursday November 4 at Hellaby Hall Hotel, needs your vote to make it a success. Nominations open on Friday July 24.
Do you know someone who has particularly inspired our young athletes? Someone who has volunteered their time selflessly? A sports person, either junior or senior, who has excelled at their sport? Or a coach who deserves a special pat on the back?
Last year the Rotherham Sports Awards were voted a big success with people of all ages, representing sports from Boxing's Sharon Holford to Rotherham Sports Acro's Luisa Bates, Synchronised Swimming's South Yorkshire Swans and Asda's Savvy Sports all winning big.
Sport and Physical Development Activity Officer Owen Swift, said: "We have a great range of talented sports stars in the borough and it's important that we recognise their achievements. These individuals work extremely hard and it's important we get behind them and show our support.
"This is a really good opportunity for the people of Rotherham to give their thanks to those athletes, coaches and volunteers who have made a difference in both their community and their chosen sport.
"It's good to remember those who selflessly push themselves to ensure that the next generation of sportsmen and women in the borough get the support, advice and training they need to succeed. Get your votes in now!"
To download your nomination form and to see all the categories, please go to www.rotherham.gov.uk/sportsawards or phone 01709 822443, the deadline for nomination is Friday September 24.
