In a new initiative between Renaissance Yorkshire, Hambleton and Richmondshire District Councils two officers are now working with the independent museums to provide curatorial advice, networking support and emergency planning.

The £28,000 scheme will see Mick Stanley and Christine Johnstone helping the ten museums across the two districts until March next year. Part of their role will be to foster and support local museums to work towards recognised professional standards and good practice.

And it is hoped that it will encourage the museums to develop joint projects and initiatives which are beneficial to both them and the local communities.

“This is a great opportunity to create an improved service to local museums - by pooling their resources the councils have enabled external funding to be brought into the two districts,” said Culture and Wellbeing Manager, Jo-Anne Simpson.

Renaissance Yorkshire is the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council’s ground breaking programme to transform England’s regional museums.  Through central government funding it is enabling regional museums across the country to raise their standards.
