Regarding Sandymount Road, you will find that it is quite different these days. Here are some notes on what I can recall for todays Wath layout in that vicinity.
Most of the houses are now privately owned and there is a new estate of houses situated at the top.
Adjacent to Sandymount road is Avenue Road, then Beech Road, and finally, just off Beech Road is the small road which is the location for the Catholic church (ST Josephs). I can't remember the name of the road, but I do know it runs off Coronation Road at the top!
At the bottom, across from the catholic church is now a series of Private Nursing Home Complexes which have replaced all the Convents. Of the convents, the second one up the road was the residence of the Nuns who taught at the RC school St Josephs, which was originally up in West Melton adjacent to Orchard Place. The new School was built in the sixties and is located on Fitzwilliam Street.
At the bottom of Sandymount Road is the old Victoria Infants School and as you head towards the village, on the right side is the old ST James Church, which was converted into a pub and Squash Courts way back in the late seventies.
Just after ST James, was the Army Cadets Hut, then Dunford House, then the Ambulance centre (which I believe is still there)
Further down, on the left still heading toward the village centre is Burman Road and eventually you will come to what was originally The Hollies WMC, which is now split into a Vets Building and Insurance Company?
bye for now
