A Shetland trawler has caught what experts believe could be the largest oyster ever found in the UK. The Fidelitas was trawling 27 miles off Bressay when it caught the shell, which measures 201mm across and weighed just over a kilogramme. Skipper Mark Anderson brought it to the NAFC Marine Centre, which confirmed its record-breaking potential. The previous UK record holder, reported in Cornwall in 2009, measured 178mm across and weighed about 1.3kg. Dr Beth Leslie from the NAFC Marine Centre said: "Native oysters are relatively rare in Shetland waters and for one to be caught in a trawl is very unusual. "This oyster was also found at around 120m, which is much deeper than would be expected for this species.

Contractors have now begun began the internal stripping-out of Crinoline House in preparation for demolition some of which will begin in the next four to six weeks. The physical demolition will require some occasional road closures outside peak traffic times to ensure the public safety in the immediate area.

The whole project is expected to take around 16 weeks to complete. Rotherham MBC has consulted with South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive to ensure that disruption to bus service departures and for customers using the Transport Interchange is kept to a minimum.

The seven-storey building on Effingham Street was built in the early 1970s and housed Rotherham Borough Council's Social Services department before staff moved out in 2010.

The demolition is the latest scheme in the wider Renaissance programme for Rotherham, which has seen the disposal or refurbishment of various council buildings around the town - allowing key sites to be released and developed.
