QPR midfielder Joey Barton is facing a lengthy ban for his red card and subsequent actions in the 3-2 defeat by Manchester City. Barton, 29, was sent off for an off-the-ball incident involving Carlos Tevez, but also kicked Sergio Aguero before leaving the field. "There's no need for Barton's actions. He just swings out violently at Tevez. It's just sheer madness. We've seen it before and we'll see it again - that's what you get with him. He's never going to calm down unfortunately." He will receive an automatic four-game ban for his second red of the season.

Criminals' cash regenerates vital community base E-mail

Criminals' cash has been used to revamp a vital community hub in Riccall near Selby.

Riccall Regen Centre was given £3,000 under North Yorkshire Police's Why should they? campaign to upgrade and refurbish an outdoor play area and sports hall floor.

The centre successfully bid for a portion of £25,000 seized by North Yorkshire Police's Financial Investigation Unit. The money was made available to good causes in North Yorkshire and the City of York whose work contributes to reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.

Selby Safer Neighbourhood Commander, Chief Inspector Mark Iveson presented a cheque to the centre last month. He said: "The Why should they campaign gives us a great opportunity to boost the fantastic work already going on in our communities.

"Knowing the cash has been taken from criminals give us the utmost satisfaction."

Serious Collision in Skipton - 15 May 3:45 E-mail

North Yorkshire Police are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the A65 between Skipton and Addingham.

Update 3.45pm Tuesday 15 May 2012:
The A65 remains closed as officers investigate the collision. It is expected to remain closed until at least 5pm and drivers are asked to avoid the area.

The vehicle has been recovered from the water.

Please note: now it has been removed from the reservoir, the vehicle has been identified as a Land Rover Defender, not a Land Rover Discovery as previously thought.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
