Woman and baby murder bid charges

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a mother and her baby in Hampshire. The woman and child both needed hospital treatment after an incident in Eastleigh in the early hours of 7 May. The 27-year-old woman suffered slash wounds and the child, 19 months old, was allegedly administered drugs. Roger Weir, 45, of Slough Lane, Poole, Dorset, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and is due before Southampton magistrates today Monday 14th May 2012.

Hull CCTV thief caught E-mail

A Hull man has been identified for stealing CCTV cameras at Torpoint Drive flats on 19 June 2011 and 15 October 2011. Hull City Council and Humberside Police worked together to identify and charge the individual.

Andrew Robert Mackay, from Torpoint Drive attended Magistrates Court on 10 April and received a community order, 50 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £396 in compensation. A Notice of Seeking Possession was also served on 7 March by Hull City Council to begin tenancy enforcement.

About 50 street parties are planned across North Yorkshire to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Officers in North Yorkshire County Council's highways team have worked alongside residents in many towns and villages to ensure the events go without a hitch. The council has arranged formal road closures to allow the parties to take place.

The events will see bunting erupt across North Yorkshire from residential side streets to almost entire villages.

St Augustine's Roman Catholic School in Scarborough has been praised by inspectors for the rich and varied experiences its young people enjoy.

More Hull Primary Schools achieve National Standard for Enterprise Education E-mail

Priory Primary and Paisley Primary schools have successfully been assessed by Warwick University on their fantastic enterprise activity within the schools; they have now become the latest Hull primary schools to achieve the National Standard for Enterprise Education.

The award of the National Standard recognises the schools commitment to embedding enterprise into their curriculum and celebrates the various activities and enterprise challenges that pupils are involved in.

With these two schools achieving the award it takes it up to 14 primary schools and Malet Lambert School Language College achieving it in Hull.

Volunteers create colourful prelude exhibition Inspired by Warhol E-mail

Volunteers inspired by the city's high profile forthcoming ARTIST ROOMS Andy Warhol exhibition have created a colourful prelude and accompanying display at Ferens Art Gallery.

The Times They Were a Changin': Inspired by Warhol exhibition will run from 19 May - 21 October in Gallery 4 and will include highlights such as a yellow bubble-car known by its owner as 'the flying banana', an action man in lunar clothing and a sequined dress of Campbells Soup cans created in direct homage to Warhol's paintings.

The exhibition explores themes of art, fashion, music and product design with particular attention given to Hull's music scene in the 1960s and early 1970s in a specially commissioned film.

Future of police-established football team E-mail

Meadowhall Shopping Centre has pledged £19,000 to Darnall United over a three year period, to ensure the survival of the local, community football team.

Darnall United was established by the Darnall and Tinsley Safer Neighbourhood Team in 2011 to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour in the area, and to facilitate greater cross-community integration.

The funds, which Meadowhall presented on behalf of their joint owners, British Land, will go towards the pitch hire, equipment, Kickz staff and tuition.

To celebrate the new partnership members of the Meadowhall Shopping Centre Management team took on Darnall United for a game of football, following an unveiling of a new kit, also sponsored by British Land.
